Rivers

In 2019 I was awarded a commission by Ffotogallery in Wales to complete a project for the British Council sponsored exhibition ‘The place I call home’. I used the opportunity to compare the rivers I grew up by in the West of England, with the fluvial landscape features (I call them extinct rivers) of the United Arab Emirates, where I spent a significant period of my adult life. I photographed the Emirati scenes on 5×4 colour film and the UK rivers with a vintage 10×8 camera and antique lens on black and white film that I processed in my bathroom.

In the winter of 2019/2020 the project was part of a touring exhibition that showed in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and multiple locations in the UK. You can find more information on the exhibition at https://www.theplaceicallhome.org
